Which Glue Do I Need for My Isokern Garden Fireplace?
A Simple Guide to Lip Glue, Firebrick Grout & Render
Building an Isokern garden fireplace is a fantastic project — but one of the most common questions we get from customers is:
“Which bag or tub do I actually use where?”
It’s easy to get confused when you receive a few different bags and tubs with similar-looking packaging. Using the wrong product in the wrong place can affect the performance and longevity of your fireplace, so we’ve put together this clear, no-jargon guide.
1. Skorstenslim – Lip Glue / Jointing Compound
Available in: 5 kg bag & 20 kg bag (yellow vertical band)
What it is: Special adhesive / jointing compound for Isokern chimneys, flues and fireplaces.
Where to use it:
- Sticking the side fire bricks to the pumice fire chamber
- Sealing the joints between the pumice blocks / modules
Tip: Think of this as the “glue” that holds the main structure together. Do not use it for the joints between the firebricks inside the fire chamber, and don’t use it as a render.
2. Isokern Pejsemørtel – Firebrick Grout
Available in: 5 kg tub & 10 kg tub
What it is: High-temperature product specially made for filling the gaps between fire bricks.
Where to use it:
- Grouting the firebrick joints inside the fire chamber
Tip: Only use this for the joints between the fire-facing bricks. It is designed to withstand high temperatures. Follow the mixing and curing instructions on the tub carefully.
3. Skorstenspuds – Render / Plaster
Available in: 20 kg bag (grey / dark vertical band)
What it is: Special render / plaster for Schiedel Isokern chimney systems. Designed to save a work stage when finishing the exterior.
Where to use it:
- Rendering the outside of the chimney structure
Tip: This is purely for the exterior finish. Never use it inside the fire chamber or for sticking pumice blocks together.
